Title: How my academic and industrial experiences led me to entrepreneurship in optical MEMS technology
Bio: Founder, CEO – Agile Focus Designs
A National Science Foundation Graduate Research fellow, Sarah Lukes received an electrical engineering PhD from Montana State University in 2015. Her diverse background includes working in orthopedics/radiology, cardiovascular stents, and cryogenics at the Mayo Clinic, Boston Scientific, and S2 Corporation, respectively. In 2015, Dr. Lukes started Agile Focus Designs to forge connections across disciplines for the advancement of miniature imaging, science, and healthcare. She is currently serving as a 2020 OSA ambassador.
Abstract: Focus and zoom prove critical in most imaging systems, but their mechanisms are often bulky, manual, and slow. Recognizing this need across many industries, Agile Focus Designs enables flexibility in magnification and focus planes at rates more than 100 times faster than conventional technology for wide-field and multiphoton microscopy. Dr. Lukes will discuss her academic career, time in industry, and what led her to entrepreneurship and the founding of Agile Focus Designs. She currently serves as an OSA ambassador and is happy to answer questions about applying to be a 2021 ambassador.
